Introducing Debbie Jorgensen
BSLSC warmly welcomes the newest lawyer to join our growing team – Debbie Jorgensen.
Debbie obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology and Biology from Mount Allison University in New Brunswick in 1999 and her law degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax in 2003. She then moved to Ontario to article with a corporate law firm in Toronto.
Following her call to the Ontario Bar in July 2004, Debbie received her LLM in Public International Law and Human Rights from the University of Toronto. As part of her studies, Debbie was a participant in the landmark collaboration between the U of T’s International Human Rights Program and U.N. Special Envoy to Africa on HIV/AIDS, Stephen Lewis. As part of this collaboration she investigated the links between HIV/AIDS and women’s rights in sub-Saharan Africa. She then travelled to India in late 2005 to conduct legal research for the UNDP on the interface between human rights and HIV/AIDS.
Following her return to Toronto, Debbie joined BSLSC as an associate, working in family law and civil litigation. In addition to developing her practice in these areas, Debbie hopes to put her experience in human rights to good use in the community. When not working, Debbie enjoys cycling, yoga and a good book every now and then.
Debbie can be reached at 416 642 8059 or djorgensen@bslsc.com
